Honestly, the Florida Legislature Office of Program Policy Analysis & Government Accountability (OPPAGA) summed-up the need for a public adjuster best with its research on the industry that was released in January 2010.
After examining 14,997 catastrophe claims filed with Citizens Insurance between March 2008 and June 2009 resulting from 2004 and 2005 hurricanes and 61,324 non-catastrophe claims during those same months, the agency found astonishing results for those claimants filing with or without a public adjuster on their side. The tally…
Those using a public adjuster received substantially higher settlements to the tune of $9,370 per claims as compared to $1,931 for those who did not; representing a stunning 574% difference.
With regards to catastrophe claims, the results were similar with the 2005 settlements where a public adjuster was involved yielding settlements of $17,187 versus a meager $2,029 for those using only the insurance companies adjuster; a difference of 747%.
A picture may be worth 1,000 words, but this graph from the research could be invaluable to you.

Commenting on OPPAGA’s findings, Lenny Bauman, President of the Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (FAPIA), stated,
“This report definitively shows that public insurance adjusters play a vital role in making sure that Florida consumers receive full and fair compensation on their insurance claims. Public insurance adjusters are the only individuals licensed by the State of Florida to represent the insured and assist clients with estimating, documenting and filing insurance claims.”
